The Dungourney Hurling Team
Air: “The Mountains of Mourne”
I am now going to tell you of Dungourney to-day
Who travelled to Conna, Bride Rovers to play.
The ball was thrown in and a Bride Rovers Star
Wasn’t long putting same right over the bar
The boys from Dungourney ‘twas plain to be seen
All looked at each other saying what does this mean?
Now came the puck out from Dungourney’s own end
To the forwards, McCarthy, the sliotar did send.
They passed to each other like comrades of yore
And the flag was unfurled for Dungourney’s first score.
So now I must tell you and bear it in mind
That the lads from Dungourney were no longer behind.
They played like champions for they could not let down
The honour and glory of Dungourney’s own town.
They took hard knocks in a plenty, they played with fourteen.
When the full whistle went, ‘twas a memorable scene.
So now back to Midleton’ our boys so well-schooled
For the clash of the ash with the boys from Lisgoold.
And now I must tell you as I did not before
That the boys from Dungourney had the very first score.
They played out the field with vigour and power
And Hartnett out shone for most of the hour.
This gallant fifteen I am wish full to say
All hurled like champions to victory that day.
So now to conclude and finish my song
The presentation of medals will be before long.
Then drink oh your liquors, come all give a shout
For the Dungourney champions are hard to knock out.

The diaconate is open to married men aged between 30 and 60 years of age and to unmarried men aged between 35 and 60 years of age.
