For some time past it has been felt that Dungourney has been neglected as far as vocational classes were concerned and this winter the women folk have every reason to be pleased with the advent of sowing classes in the schoolhouse. A lady vocational teacher has started weekly classes in sowing and embroidery and they will be held each Tuesday night at 7.30 pm. Attendances are good so far with strong contingents from the Donickmore and Clonmult areas.
Good News-We have heard that the local hall is to reopen on November 23rd with the local Macra na Feirme dance. For some time now the hall has been taken over by the E.S.B. and all social functions had to be called off.
Dungourney Fought to the End-The Dungourney Rovers Football team are to be complimented on the fine fight they put up against Glanmire, who beat them in the “B” Grade East Cork Championship. The score was Glanmire 3-3. Dungourney0-3. For the first ten minutes it looked like the local boys would pull of the game, but Glanmire’s attack in the second half could not be withheld. Still Dungourney fought hard to the end in one of the best games of the season.
Invitation-We have just learned that the Midleton C.Y.M.S. Drama Group have invited Edmond Fitzgerald to play the part of “Frankie” in their coming presentation of J. McCann’s comedy “Give Me a Bed of Roses”. This group staged “Twenty Years A-wooing” two years ago and won the Cork Drama Festival with it.
Mogeely to the Fore-Something new in entertainment will be held in Mogeely on Sunday when the Grain Association will sponsor seven-a-side hurling matches. One will be between Castlelyons and “Hyde’s”, the other Mogeely versus Tattens. This should prove quite a novelty in the way of entertainment, and the staff at Imokilly Creamery are to be complimented on their initiative in sponsoring such a venture. For the past three years the creamery has been going ahead by leaps and bounds, and now a new grain store and dryer have added their elegance, to the already fine building which was erected some thirty years ago. The expansion of this Co-Op has added to the life of this fine East Cork village. It has given employment to up to 100 people.
