COUNTY CHAMPIOSHIP CONTESTS

ST. FINBARRS 1. v DUNGOURNEY 1.

REDMOMDS 11 v DUNGOURNEY 11.

A huge attendance witnessed the meeting of the Barrs and Dungourney at Midleton on Sunday for championship honours. The weather held up remarkably well notwithstanding the doubtful indications of early morning. There was no delay to which exception could be taken in the starting of the contest, which is a noteworthy fact having regard to the numerous well-grounded complaints heard for some time past. Tremendous interest was centred in the tussle, and both teams brought big contingents of followers. The Dungourney team was a uniformly strong combination, and in point of physique overshadowed the Barrs; but what the latter lacked in this respect they more than made up for it in fleetness of foot and readiness of attack. Their scoring line was more reliable, and the number of frees awarded against Dungourney cost them dearly. It was a tremendous hard match, and while there were some exceedingly brilliant individual performances on the Dungourney side, there were also, it must be said, some bad mistroking at crucial moments of the contest. The Barrs did very well, indeed, and got through with much credit. The final score was; Barrs, 2 goals 8points; Dungourney, 1 goal 7 points.

The second match, in which the second grades of Redmonds were pitted against Dungourney, started too late in the evening to permit of its being finished. The score when the match was postponed was; Redmonds, 6 goals 4 points Dungourney, 2 goals 3 points. The refereeing of Mr. E. Carey, Midleton, was most satisfactory.
