Tuesday 2nd February. Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It is also Candlemass day. Candles for use in the church or in the home will be blessed on Tuesday morning. Candles can be left in the churches over the weekend and will be collected on Monday evening, blessed on Tuesday morning and returned to the church for collection after the morning Mass.

Wednesday 3rd February. St. Blaise. Traditionally on this day the blessing of throats would take place. Unfortunately we are unable to do this at this present time. The prayer of blessing will be recited at the morning Mass on Wednesday.

The blessing of St. Blaise is a sign of our faith in God’s protection and love for us, md for the sick. Using two crossed and unlighted candles, blessing on the memorial of St. Blaise, the minister touches the throat of each person saying.

‘Through the intercession of St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, may God deliver you from all ailments of the throat, and from every other evil.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Maybe you might say this prayer as a family prayer on this day.
