Village Is Angry Over School Plan.

Feelings are running high in the village of Clonmult, Co. Cork, where there is a threat to close the local two-teacher school, which is attended by some 40 pupils, and amalgamate it with the 80-pupil of Dungourney a few miles away.

Last night, parishioners attended a meeting in the local hall, where a committee was formed to protest against the decision of the Department to amalgamate the schools.

After a long discussion, in the course pf which it was felt that the interests of the community would be best served by retaining their school, it was unanimously decided to oppose its closing.

The committee elected were: Chairman, Mr. D. Kenneally; vice-chairman, Mr. W. O’Sullivan; hon. Sec., Mrs. T. O’Sullivan. Committee: Mrs. M. Hennessy, Mrs. T. Harnedy; Messrs. J. Mulcahy, M. Motherway, J. Rohan, J. Wrynn, J. Connery and P. Hennessy.

Papal Initiative for Prayer in May.

You will be aware of Pope Francis’ initiative for prayer in the month of May for the end of the Covid 19 Pandemic. You will note that in Ireland, prayer will be led on the 10th May from the International Marian Shrine at Knock. Thirty Marian Shrines will take turns leading this prayer throughout the Church and offering the faithful a series of prayer moments for them to participate throughout the entire day. The praying of the rosary for the month of May is encouraged.

A list of the shrines throughout the world is included with the prayer intentions for each day.
