A good team performance saw Dungourney defeat Tracton at Pairc Ui Rinn last evening to go through to the next round of the Intermediate Hurling Championship. Lining out without some of our regular players, Injuries and holidays, all replacements made a statement of intent why they should be on the “Starting 15” next day out. While we were slow to settle, as the first half progressed we settled more into the pace and physicality of the game. Trailing for most of the first period, we raised a couple of white flags to go in at the break one up Dungourney 0-11 Tracton 0-10.
On the resumption Dungourney made a major statement of intent when Sean Hegarty raised the first green flag of the game. Now the fluency of our play which at times we take for granted began to show. With a four point lead any time Tracton brought us back to a goal we had the ability to push on again. Another big moment for us came when Darragh Ahern raised our second green flag. With the clock ticking down, we could now start to relax and start thinking of “Round 4”. Overall a good performance by all concerned, back to the training ground now for the next two weeks to prepare for Blackrock in “Round 4”.
