Sciath na Scol Roinn H4 Final.
Dungourney 1-4 Berrings 0-3.
Dungourney and Berrings contested the Sciath na Scoil H4 Final at a sun drenched Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Wednesday 6th June.
Berrings were first on the scoreboard, but this was to be the only time they would lead. Dungourney took a little time to settle, but once Niall Hennessy found the net the quality of their hurling began to show. This was a goal his Grandfather would have been proud of, no mean defender in his day. The first half came to a close with a well taken point by Niall Howard. Half –time Dungourney 1-1 Berrings 0-1.
The second half got underway with two white flags from dead balls for Berrings. Dungourney once again upped the pressure and points from Brian Flynn and Sean Geaney kept the scoreboard ticking over. A little wayward shooting from the boys in Green & Gold were beginning to worry St Peters followers, but a fine point from Cillian O’Callaghan made it a two score lead. Berrings did get through a defence that had stood solid for thirty eight minutes for a shot on goal. A brilliant save by Eamonn Barry denying Berrings the green flag they craved. “BARRS” the daddy will never forget his first day in the new Pairc. Final score Dungourney 1-4 Berrings 0-3.
This victory was very much a team effort with each player displaying their skills, hooking, blocking, and high fielding, a joy to watch. The future looks bright.
Overall, Goalie Eamonn, “Breeding always more important than Feeding”.
Shane, Oran and Sean no Green Flag raised, that tells its own story, although the Green of “Luimneach” was bobbing up and down in the Stand.
Sean, Kelvin and Charlie, you held your lines well, even getting forward to raise a white, that’s what halfbacks do in the modern game.
Cillian and Brian, you raised the white flags when the need was greatest.
Richie, Niall, Sean, and Niall you never allowed you opponents to set up any meaningful attacks and when chance came your way you made no mistakes.
Every team needs a good bench thanks to, Casey, Jack, Lewis, Barry, Vincent, Cian, Matt, Colm, Michael, Devin, Adam and Liam.
Well done to all involved with this group of young players, School Coaches, Club Coaches. They are a credit to you all.
P.S. Lifting the Sliothar with only one hand on the Hurley was a serious misdemeanour during Donal O’Grady’s Inter County Management.
