At present Dungourney Camogie Club have 102 Juvenile members. The club is growing from strength to strength every year. This is due to help and commitment from the Parents & Coaches who we are indebted to.
At present we have teams in the following age groups:
Age Group Coaches
U 8 s Laurie Harte, Alan Kelleher, Tony Loughnane, Brian Corby, Ger Smiddy.
U10s Brendan McGrath, Aidan McGuckian.
U12s Christine Egan, Trevor Montgomery.
U13 & U14 Ciaran Casey, Sorcha Casey, Clare Casey.
U15 & U16 Mary Harrington, Steven Hickey , John Ronayne, David Hegarty.
Registration is held in February each year. Training starts in March weather permitting it is held in the GAA Field and for the younger age groups starting out it is held indoors in Dungourney School Hall until weather improves and they have a basic grasp of their skills.
Our younger age groups play in Go Games up to U12, this is a great system in competition there are three parts to the game instead of the usual two half’s, each girl is then given a chance to play in a different area of the field each part of the game as all players have to be rotated during the match. There are no scores kept and at the end of the season each team gets to play in a final in Castleroad or in Ballncollig. We also run a fun filled Summer Camogie Camp each year in August for girls from 1st Class up to 15 years which is usually run by two of the Cork Players with help from our older girls, here the girls learn more of their skills and get to put them in use.
Our older girls compete in the Imokilly League Matches and also in Championship Matches up to U16. We are very lucky to have dedicated coaches for all the girls who have kindly helped out this year sacrificing their time for training and matches it is much appreciated as some of our coaches have no children playing with the Club.
We are very fortunate to have such a great club for our Girls in our community it is a great way for the girls to grown in confidence and meet their friends on a regular basis right throughout the year and especially during summer holidays. The Girls have great fun in a safe and controlled environment, and it teaches them to be a team player from very young.
All new members are most welcome Girls can start as soon as they start school and at present we have girls up to U16 and hopefully in the not so distant future will field an U18 team and go on to eventually have a Junior team.
This is a voluntary organisation and is very much dependant on Parents, Coaches & Fixture Secretaries giving their time and commitment, without this core group it would not be possible to have such a wonderful club for our Girls. Any Queries can be directed to:
